The Gilbert Duran Collection
"The Gilbert Duran Fine Art Collection: Celebrating a San Antonio Master"
Gilbert Duran (1947–2023) stands as one of San Antonio's most outstanding and beloved artists, leaving an impressive legacy that spans vibrant canvases and striking sculpture. First gaining acclaim for his masterful watercolor renditions of South Texas wildlife and classic Texas ranch scenes, Duran later shifted to vivid oil paintings that embraced South Texas and Latin themes.
His most famous work, 'Frida Margarita,' depicting Frida Kahlo with a cocktail, has been widely copied, solidifying his unique brand of 'puro San Antonio' art. Working from his Southtown studio, Duran Arte, he produced a prolific body of original paintings and sculptures, including commissioned works.
Duran's key pieces have been displayed in prominent San Antonio locations like Rosario's and Soluna, exhibited at the Smithsonian Museo Alameda, and are held in notable private collections, including that of Guadalupe Rivera Marin, daughter of Diego Rivera.
As a known art seller in Bexar County, Booth Fine Art is proud to offer pieces from the Gilbert Duran collection. This is a rare opportunity to acquire works from an artist whose original vision and passion for his South Texas heritage continue to inspire collectors throughout the Southwest.
